Former NORAD commander to speak at 9/11 Memorial

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Retired Air Force Lt. Gen. Mike Gould, the 18th superintendent of the U.S. Air Force Academy, will be the featured speaker at the community commemoration of 9/11 on Wednesday, Sept. 11.

Gen. Gould was the commander of the Cheyenne Mountain Operations Center in 2001, during the attacks on the United States. The center played a crucial role in providing information to the Pentagon’s National Military Command Center and relayed NORAD orders to ground all aircraft over the U.S.

He will share his experiences from that day and discuss the aftermath of 9/11 and its impact on the nation.

The 9/11 commemoration will take place at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Memorial Park in Colorado Springs.
