Man allegedly tries to evade arrest by climbing on roof

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — A man allegedly tried to hide from the police in his bedroom and then climbed on his roof to avoid arrest on Monday, Sept. 16, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD).

CSPD reported that around 7 a.m. Monday, officers responded to the 3600 block of Haven Circle, near North Academy Boulevard and North Carefree Circle, in response to a report about a wanted person, 24-year-old Joseph Friend, who was locked inside a bedroom in a home in the neighborhood.

While officers tried to make contact with Friend, he crawled out of the bedroom window and onto the roof, CSPD said. Police set up containment around the house and made several attempts to convince Friend to come down and comply with the arrest, but he refused.

The Tactical Enforcement Unit was called in, and with their help, the suspect eventually came down from the roof and was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant, according to CSPD. No officers or civilians were injured.
