Apartment fire caused by food left on burning stove

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD) reported that a fire at an apartment on Saturday morning, Sept. 28, was caused by food left on a burning stove.

The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) said that a call came in around 10 a.m. on Saturday reporting lots of smoke coming from the apartment building. CSFD was able to contain the fire in the kitchen, where it was observed that the fire had been caused by food left on the stove.

According to CSFD, the people living in the apartment were displaced and are being helped by the Red Cross and property management. CSPD said that there were no injuries or fatalities and that Colorado Springs Utilities was on the scene to ensure that there were properly working utilities.
