CSP: Man killed in I-25 crash near PPIR, car reported stolen

(EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — A man was killed in a crash on southbound I-25 between Colorado Springs and Pueblo on Thursday afternoon, Oct. 10, and the car he was driving was reported stolen, according to Colorado State Patrol.

CSP said troopers responded shortly after 2 p.m. on Thursday to the southbound lanes of I-25 at mile point 122, which is near Pikes Peak International Raceway (PPIR), on reports of a single-car crash.

The crash did not block any lanes of I-25, CSP said, but first responders closed one lane for the investigation.

A 40-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene, and the car was reported stolen out of Pueblo, CSP said.

As of 5 p.m., CSP said troopers were still on the scene, and there is no estimated time of the crash scene being cleared. Drivers are encouraged to plan alternate routes if they are heading south on I-25 and use caution around crews if they must travel in the area.
