I-25 reopened after fatal car vs. fuel tanker crash

UPDATE: SATURDAY 10/26/2024 4:20 p.m.

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — According to CSPD, I-25 has reopened as of 4:30 p.m. after the fatal crash at the MLK Bypass was cleared.

CSPD reported that when emergency personnel arrived at the scene, they found that the crash had occurred between a car and a fuel truck. The driver of the car had died, and the passenger was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. The driver of the fuel truck was not injured.

The Major Crash Team investigated and found that both vehicles had been driving southbound on I-25 near Exit 139. Witnesses reported the car had been weaving in and out of traffic at high speeds. The fuel truck had been merging onto I-25 and entering the right lane when the car hit the rear of the fuel truck and caused it to spin and fall on its side.
