EPSO: Driver allegedly caught going more than 120 mph on Powers Boulevard

(EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO) said a driver was caught going more than 60 mph over the speed limit on Powers Boulevard over the weekend.

According to a Facebook post by the Sheriff’s Office, captioned: “I wanted to see how fast this car could go,” EPSO wrote that one of its deputies stopped a car that was going 121 mph on Powers.

After the stop, the deputy issued the driver a 32-point ticket and mandatory court date for Reckless Driving, Engaging in Acceleration/Speed Contest, and Driving 40 mph or more over the posted speed limit.

“Unacceptable. If you engage in dangerous behavior, we will hold you accountable to the fullest extent of the law,” wrote EPSO. “Slow down, El Paso County. You put yourself and countless (innocent) others at risk when you disregard the laws and drive recklessly.”

The Sheriff’s Office also posted about another instance over the weekend, where a driver was caught going 100 mph in a 65 zone off Highway 94 and Corral Valley Road.
