CSPD: Man arrested for setting fires outside his home

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) said that officers responded to reports of a disturbance on Saturday, Nov. 9, around 11 p.m., involving a man attempting to set fires inside and outside his home.

According to CSPD, officers arrived on the 1500 block of South Corona Avenue, near I-25 and South Nevada Avenue, where 55-year-old Michael Alexander refused to answer his door. He then exited his home and set items on fire in front of it, prompting a response from the Colorado Springs Fire Department (CSFD).

Police said Alexander then went back inside and tried unsuccessfully to set items on fire. He allegedly yelled threats of violence at officers.

The road was shut down during the incident, and around 1:15 a.m., Alexander came outside again, where officers were able to safely take him into custody. No injuries were reported, and Alexander was arrested for first-degree arson.
