Update (1:25 p.m.): Douglas County officials announced that they had filed an appeal of the CDLE’s decision on Nov. 7.
DENVER (KDVR) — An investigation by the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment has found that Douglas County Sheriff Darren Weekly and others violated state law during a union election process earlier this year.
According to the findings, Weekly, as well as Undersheriff David Walcher and County Commissioners George Teal, Abe Laydon and Lora Thomas, were found to have committed unfair labor practices in violation of the Collective Bargaining By County Employees Act, which was passed in 2023.

The county was ordered to stop all anti-collective bargaining actions, distribute the determination letter to all employees and post a notice informing employees about their rights under state law.
The Board of Douglas County Commissioners and Sheriff Weekly announced Tuesday that they had appealed the decision on Nov. 7. They also filed a request to stop the enforcement actions until the appeal is resolved.
