(SOUTHERN COLORADO) — The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region (HSPPR) shared the story of two strays with heartbreaking journeys and the happy endings both finally found.
HSPPR said it sees thousands of dogs come through the shelter every year, and each one matters, but every once in a while, a dog or two comes along and leaves a deeper impression on the team.
That was the case with Reggie and Willow–their story begins on one of the coldest days of the year. Reggie arrived first, followed by Willow a few hours later. Neither dog knew the other, but their stories were similar. They were skeletal, their ribs pressed against their skin and their eyes hollow with exhaustion, according to HSPPR. There was no fat, no muscle, no reserves, just the will to live.
HSPPR said the two dogs survival almost felt like a small miracle. The veterinary team jumped into action, working tirelessly to stabilize Reggie and Willow; their survival was not guaranteed, not even close, but these dogs were fighters…
