District 11 announces changes to employee handbook, some teachers worried

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – Wednesday night, the District 11 School Board was presented with its new employee handbook. In February, the district decided to end its decades-long contract with the teachers’ union and develop the employee handbook. But now, this process has generated a lot of concerns from teachers about the proposed changes.

Some of those changes include at-will employment and punitive leave policies, but the school board assured that none of the teachers’ conditions or benefits will be changing.

Earlier this year, teachers concerned about the plan rallied before board meetings outside of district headquarters and outside of local schools. They told 11 News in February that the changes will worsen their teaching conditions and take away certain benefits…
