(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The largest elementary robotics competition in the Pikes Peak region returned on Saturday, May 3, with more than 360 students from 17 elementary schools participating.
Kids used robotics kits to showcase their skills in engineering, coding, teamwork, and creativity at Colorado Springs School District 11’s (D11) third annual Elementary Robotics Competition. This year’s theme was “Ocean science exploration.”
The event celebrates D11’s growing investment in STEM education through its robotics program.
“We hope that what we’re doing today is inspiring the next generation to see STEM careers as their career in their future,” said Duane Roberson, Career & Technical Education Director, D11. “What we love about robotics is it levels the playing ground. We have an equal number of girls and boys. It doesn’t matter what your STEM background is. Everybody comes to robotics as a newcomer and they build up their skills together.”…
