New D11 School of Technology breaks ground

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — It might have been gloomy outside in Colorado Springs on Monday, May 5, but the lights and mood were much brighter inside the site of the new Colorado Springs School of Technology.

The official groundbreaking ceremony took place on Monday, but work has already began to get the school ready for students to walk in to start school in August. Right now, Principal Nathan Gorsch is continuing to put together the puzzle pieces as he looks to continue recruiting students and their families as construction ramps up.

“We’re hoping for 75 to 100 students,” Gorsch said. “We have probably about 50 to 60 students already committed and actively recruiting right now.”

The construction crew will now focus on renovating the building where the school will be located. D-11 is using $2.5 million of their Capital Contingency Fund to renovate the space for the school. This comes after the district was recently slapped with another steep price tag to repair structural damage to Jenkins Middle School…
