(COLORADO SPRINGS) — K9 officers, including K9 Zev, helped U.S. Marshals arrest a suspect wanted on outstanding felony warrants on Monday, July 7. Zev’s bark was a key factor in convincing the suspect to surrender.
CSPD K9: Zev barks and suspects surrender
According to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD), the K9 officers joined the US Marshals, District of Colorado Violent Offender Task Force, after agents identified the suspect at a home in the 500 block of Empress Street, near Highway 85 and Mesa Ridge Parkway.
CSPD reported that officers and agents set up containment on the home and made announcements ordering the suspect to come out and surrender peacefully. At one point, a man and woman were seen trying to get out through the back, but went back inside when officers saw them.
After a diversion was set off, Canine Zev took his place at the front of the house, according to CSPD. The suspect opened the front door and refused to comply with police orders, but “regained his amenability as he focused on Zev, who was now barking at him.” Officers ordered him to approach and surrender, and the suspect complied…
