Feds investigating $136K found during Douglas County traffic stop on I-25

DENVER (KDVR) — Douglas County Sheriff’s Office deputies made a surprising discovery of more than $100,000 in a vehicle during a traffic stop earlier this week that led to a federal investigation.

The deputies were conducting traffic enforcement on Interstate 25 near Greenland on Tuesday when they saw a vehicle speeding southbound, according to a Facebook post. After stopping the vehicle, the deputies noticed the driver “behaving erratically and appeared to be under the influence of narcotics.”

A K-9 named Dozer was then brought in and alerted to the possible presence of narcotics, leading deputies to perform a field sobriety test on the driver and search the vehicle.

“Surprisingly,” deputies did not find any drugs; they did, however find $136,000 in cash hidden in the vehicle. Dozer had also alerted to the cash, suggesting it was in close contact with narcotics…
