Deputies identified in deadly Lorson Ranch shooting

(EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — The deputies involved in a shooting in Lorson Ranch on July 18 have been identified by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO).

Deputies originally responded around 11:30 p.m. on Friday, July 18 to the 6500 block of Tranters Creek Way in Lorson Ranch on a report of a disturbance with a gun believed to have been involved.

When deputies arrived, they found a gun in the driveway of the home and made contact with a woman and a man, later identified as 59-year-old Brian Prine. When deputies tried to detain Prine, he allegedly became physically aggressive toward deputies and grabbed a taser from one of the deputies.

According to EPSO, Prine fired the taser as a fight began between him and the deputies. EPSO reported that at least two deputies fired at least one round each, hitting Prine. Despite medical intervention, Prine was declared dead on scene.

On Thursday, July 24, EPSO identified the involved deputies as Brenden Koehlinger and Juanito Cuellar. Koehlinger has been employed by EPSO since 2018 and Cuellar since 2017.
