CSPD patrol car hit by driver on I-25 after debris spill

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — A Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) patrol car was hit when slowing traffic on I-25 after bricks and debris had spilled on the road in the early morning hours of Saturday, Aug. 9.

According to CSPD, around 3:45 a.m., officers responded to the southbound lanes of I-25 north of West Fillmore Street on Saturday after several pieces of bricks and concrete had spilled on the roadway. The officer was driving a marked patrol car with emergency lights activated to slow traffic and warn drivers of hazards.

CSPD reported that the officer was outside of the vehicle while it was blocking the left and center lanes when a driver didn’t yield or slow down for the patrol car and hit the front driver’s side. The officer was not injured, and the driver was cited for Careless Driving and Actions on Approach to a Stopped Emergency Vehicle…
