EPSO assists in homeless camp cleanup near USAFA

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO) reported that, along with other agencies, deputies cleared an area of illegal homeless encampments near the U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA) grounds on Tuesday, Aug. 5.

According to EPSO, the camp had been discovered by the sheriff’s office during a routine patrol of the area, when they saw that the space had been extensively used and there was an environmental impact.

EPSO stated that members of the Sheriff’s Posse maintained initial site security during the cleanup, which was done in partnership with USAFA and El Paso County Planning and Development.

“Addressing illegal encampments and their impacts on public and federal lands requires a strong, united response,” said El Paso County Sheriff Joseph Roybal. “This operation is a clear example of what’s possible when agencies work together to protect our community, preserve our landscapes, and offer support to those in need.”…
