Colorado Springs, Colo. – The University of Denver women’s soccer team (1-0-1, 0-0-0 Summit) finished opening weekend with a 0-0 draw at Colorado College on Sunday afternoon.
Denver led time of possession and in most offensive statistics but was unable to find the back of the net. Goalkeeper Alina Santos added three more saves to start the year in helping prevent a goal for the Tigers while DU’s sturdy defense limited CC’s chances in and around the box.
SIGNIFICANT STATS:
- Denver finished ahead in both shot attempts (15-10) and shots on target (7-3).
- The Pioneers’ backline held the Tigers to just a single corner kick in the match.
- Five different Denver players shared the team lead with five shot attempts including redshirt sophomore Kera Nguyen, who put both on target for the most shots on goal for either team.
- Redshirt sophomores Rowan LaPiano and Kit Mooney both made their official collegiate debuts, Mooney as a starter and LaPiano as a first-half sub.
- Redshirt sophomore Luci Vincent made the second start of her career and joined redshirt junior Emma Thielbahr, freshman Annie Philbin and Santos in playing the full 90 minutes.
