Wheelin’ back together 40 years later

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The 19th annual “Buses at the Brewery” event in Southern Colorado was marked by a heartwarming reunion as Becky Drinnon from Texas was reunited with the 1960 VW Bus she grew up with.

The event, which took place in downtown Colorado Springs, featured a variety of vintage buses, but it was the rusted Volkswagen that drew special attention. Becky Drinnon, originally from Amarillo, Texas, had not seen the bus in four decades. The reunion was made possible by Eric Englemann, the current owner, who discovered the bus’s connection to Drinnon through a faint logo.

“This is the original version,” said Becky Drinnon, reflecting on the memories the bus brought back of riding with her father. “My heart is full,” she added.

Eric Englemann, the current owner, explained, “The main drive to this bus is the story behind it.” He recounted how he discovered the bus’s origins: “I noticed a very, very faint logo on the front of the bus. It said Dowell’s Cafe, Amarillo, Texas.”

“I always say if you’re in any position to make somebody’s day, make somebody’s day,” Englemann said, expressing his joy at reuniting Drinnon with the bus…
