El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Investigates Homicide After Gunshot Victim Found at Highway 24 Crash Scene

Tragedy struck near the intersection of Highway 24 and Blue Gill Drive in El Paso County last Tuesday when a report came in about a three-vehicle traffic accident, but the scene quickly escalated to something more sinister when deputies discovered a passenger critically injured, ultimately resulting in a homicide investigation. According to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, initial attempts to save the passenger were in vain as life-saving efforts failed, and the individual was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident occurred on the morning of August 26, where the sheriff’s office received a call around 8:10 a.m. about the crash, the reporting party described a white pickup truck towing a black trailer where the victim, now identified as 29-year-old Noel Gutierrez-Cano, was found injured and later pronounced dead, the victim had sustained a gunshot wound which added a layer of gravity to the already tragic incident, prompting an immediate response from deputies who arrived to conduct an extensive investigation and to locate the driver of the white pickup who had fled the scene after the crash.

The El Paso County Coroner’s Office confirmed the identity of Mr. Gutierrez-Cano and reported that he died from a gunshot, not the impact of the crash.
