(EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO) has released the identity of an armed suspect who was shot and killed during an officer-involved shooting near Galley Road and North Powers Boulevard.
Officers with the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) originally responded to a disturbance just after 2:45 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 22, in the 1100 block of Branding Iron Circle, northwest of the intersection of Powers and Galley. According to EPSO, the suspect, identified as 42-year-old Cole Vannuci, was known to law enforcement and was wanted for previous crimes.

When officers arrived, they found Vannuci sitting in the driver’s seat of a car. Officers positioned their cars to prevent Vannuci from escaping and gave repeated verbal commands for Vannuci to get out of the car. According to EPSO, Vannuci did not comply and was seen to be armed with a gun.
Vannuci allegedly displayed the gun and pointed it at officers, at which point at least one CSPD officer fired one round, hitting Vannuci. Emergency medical aid was provided to Vannuci, but he was pronounced dead on scene. No officers or bystanders were injured in the shooting…
