(U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo.) — The U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA) said if you see smoke blowing over the Academy later in the week of Sept. 22, do not be alarmed, as a prescribed burn is taking place.
The prescribed burn operation will be in the Rainbow Gulch area west of Rampart Reservoir and is slated for Wednesday, Sept. 24, and Thursday, Sept. 25, pending weather and other conditions.
The U.S. Forest Service said fire managers will begin treating 460 acres in the Rainbow Gulch area. Prescribed fires are used to manage landscapes and improve forest conditions, provide diverse habitats for plants and animals, and reduce the risk of destructive wildfire to municipal watersheds and communities in the area…
