The Douglas County Opioid Council is stepping up its game with a new public awareness campaign aimed at breaking the stigma surrounding opioid use and addiction, a move that’s been much needed in the region. Unveiled on September 25, according to Douglas County, the initiative is placing a spotlight on the personal stories of individuals who are facing opioid use in their daily lives. It’s a concerted effort that involves not only those who have lived through addiction but also the professionals who are continuously working on the front lines of recovery.
Opioid addiction, often seen as a problem kept quietly out of sight, has a grip on Douglas County much more severe than many might realize. The Council’s goal is to tailor solutions specific to the community’s needs, as evident from the words of Douglas County Commissioner Abe Laydon. “Opioid use often hides in the shadows, but its impact is felt across every community, including ours here in Douglas County,” Laydon said. “By launching this campaign, we are amplifying the voices of those with lived experience to break down stigma and make it clear that recovery is possible,” as per Douglas County.
As part of the campaign strategies, the Council plans to leverage social media channels and traditional outreach to disseminate these powerful messages and experiences. With the rollout across platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube, they aim to connect intimately with the community and drive home the message that support is available and accessible. One can follow their progress and learn more about individual experiences, including Eddy’s story, through online channels and the council’s webpage…
