El Paso County has once again become the backdrop for a confrontation between law enforcement and criminal activity. An operation by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office resulted in a stolen vehicle and an arrest at the Econolodge Hotel, a spot notorious for frequent incidents involving illicit behavior. The action took place last Thursday night, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.
Patrol deputies, in an area known for motor vehicle thefts, weapons offenses, and narcotics-related crimes, spotted a vehicle at around 10:29 PM that fit the description of a stolen truck, a 1992 Ford F-150. Jonathan Madrid, a 31-year-old man on parole for robbery and motor vehicle theft, was noticed close to the vehicle, sporting a black shirt. His attempt to drive away was thwarted by deputies who placed their vehicle in his path and activated their lights. An unfortunate error led to a further confrontation when Madrid reversed into another patrol car.
Inside the Ford truck was not just Madrid, but an adult female passenger and two young children were also found amidst the chaos. The effort to stop the truck involved a Tactical Intervention Method, which ultimately led to Madrid’s arrest “without incident,” despite the potentially violent escalation…
