Garden of the Gods celebrates National Fossil Day

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The City of Colorado Springs is inviting the public to the Garden of the Gods Visitor and Nature Center on Saturday, Oct. 11 for the 11th Annual National Fossil Day Celebration.

The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is hosted in partnership with the Western Interior Paleontological Society and several local organizations. The City said the family-friendly event offers a day of discovery, learning, and fun.

Guests of all ages can enjoy hands-on fossil, dinosaur, and natural history activities, live animal demonstrations with Nature’s Educators, and the chance to find and take home a real fossil while supplies last. The event will have giveaways, education exhibits, and plenty of opportunities to learn about the ancient stories hidden in the park’s red rock formations, according to the City.

“National Fossil Day is all about discovery,” said Bret Tennis, Garden of the Gods parks operations administrator. “Fossils have a way of sparking curiosity, especially in kids, and reminding us how connected we are to the Earth’s story. It’s a fun, hands-on way to explore and learn together.”…
