The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office heralded the grand reopening of their Regional Communications Center, a pivotal move in the realm of public safety communications. As reported by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, this revamped facility is set to meet the surging needs of emergency services, benefiting a wide network of partner agencies.
Initially built in 2012, the Communications Center has long served as an essential nexus, linking residents of unincorporated El Paso County as well as other jurisdictions with critical emergency resources. The center is responsible for dispatch services that are key for eight law enforcement agencies and twenty fire departments, as well as burgeoning numbers of specialized response units. Factory consolidation with Fountain Communications in 2016, coupled with rapid population growth, necessitated the expansions. In February 2023, Sheriff Joseph Roybal initiated the necessary steps by authorizing a feasibility review. This led to an alliance with the El Paso-Teller County 911 Authority to carry the project forward, pooling close to $2.25 million between them for the endeavor.
While under construction, dispatch operations were shifted to the temporary location of the El Paso-Teller County 911 Authority’s Communications Center, as the center’s services continued to operate seamlessly despite the substantial upgrades being made.
