Colorado Springs Airport is embracing local art through a new initiative dubbed Art at COS, enhancing the travel experience with a splash of regional creativity. In partnership with the Cottonwood Center for the Arts and the Downtown Creative District’s Art on the Streets, the airport premiered the program in October as part of the Arts Month 2025 celebration, overseen by the Cultural Office of the Pikes Peak Region, according to a Colorado Springs Airport announcement. With a focus on the local scene, the airport’s second floor near TSA queuing will transform into a gallery, debuting its inaugural exhibit in January 2026 and featuring quarterly rotations of local and regional artists’ works.
Art at COS is designed to echo the city’s unique flair and Alex Kovacs, Director of Aviation, made it clear that it’s more than just decoration it’s a tribute to Colorado Springs’ heart and soul, stating, “this program is about more than filling walls and spaces with art; it’s about honoring the identity of our community and creating a sense of place,” he told the City of Colorado Spring’s website. Not only will the interior spaces be adorned with art, but travelers can also expect to be greeted by large-scale sculptures, an expansion of the Art on the Streets program with Lepidoptera by Kasia Polkowska installed on October 15 and two sculptures, Blossoming and Muse of Music by Jodi Bliss due to be in place on October 22, 2025.
The enthusiastic reception of the program extends to gallery curators, with Cottonwood Center for the Arts’ Gallery Director, Jess Preble, expressing excitement over curating the new space, “Colorado Springs Airport is so often the first impression of our city and the Pikes Peak Region, and Art at COS immediately connects visitors and residents alike to our vibrant community,” Preble said in a statement obtained by City of Colorado Springs. Artists eager to be featured in this blossoming cultural hub can apply through the Cottonwood Center for the Arts website, redirecting the direct handling of submissions away from the airport…
