Wounded dog looking for calm, patient home

(PIKES PEAK REGION, Colo.) — The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region (HSPPR) is sharing the story of a dog who came to the shelter after an incident with another dog and the team’s work to slowly rebuild trust with her.

According to HSPPR, Asia is an 8-year-old Beagle, Pit bull mix. Asia used to trust easily, but when she was brought into HSPPR, she had bite wounds along her neck and leg. Someone decided there needed to be a change and brought Asia into HSPPR.

HSPPR said Asia had built up walls and wasn’t trusting. HSPPR’s veterinary team worked slowly with Asia, treating her wounds and caring for Asia. HSPPR reports Asia would lean into the veterinary team’s touch before pulling away.

HSPPR’s behavior team then worked with Asia, slowly building trust with her. HSPPR said that after some time, Asia started to show signs of trust, not hiding in the back of the kennel, wagging her tail, and reacting well to staff members.

HSPPR said while Asia showed signs of improvement, the old scars still linger, and Asia would likely work best in a home without another dog and with older kids who can give her the space and patience she needs…
