PPLD’s ‘Spooky Stacks’ brings real haunting tales from the Pikes Peak Region

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – The Pikes Peak Library District’s (PPLD) historic Carnegie Library, connected to the Penrose Library, is hosting its annual ‘Spooky Stacks’ on Monday and Tuesday. Tours start at 5:30 p.m. Those who dare to enter the haunting library will encounter performers with local tales of disaster and murder.

“We turn all the lights off, so it’s very low lighting,” archivist Erin Barnes said. “There’s a lot of cobwebs everywhere, but there’s also a lot of light bulb moments where folks say, ‘I didn’t know you existed. I didn’t know these collections were here. I didn’t know it was publicly accessible.’ I think that’s my favorite part is when people realize what a great treasure trove this is here for the community.”

Barnes said Carnegie Library, which was built in 1905 and donated by William Jackson Palmer, now preserves all of the Pikes Peak Region’s history and archives…
