One of Colorado’s Last Functioning Payphones Ceases Operation

Colorado is full of picturesque, small mountain towns, and until fairly recently, one of these mountain towns was home to what one can only assume was one of the last functioning payphones in the state.

Florissant, Colorado: A Picturesque Mountain Town

High in the Rocky Mountains just outside of the historic gambling town of Cripple Creek sits the even smaller town of Florissant, Colorado.

For fans of the area, one of the best places to stop while driving through Florissant is a general store and gas station known as Evergreen Station.

Evergreen Station, located at 8277 County Road 1, is accompanied by additional Florissant businesses, including Goldmine Liquor Store, Clover Custom Crafts, HolyMoly Donuts, and a food truck known as Rocky Mountain Rations.

It was also at Evergreen Station that a free, functioning payphone, likely one of the last of its kind in the state, was. However, it appears that while the payphone is still there, it is no longer functioning.
