King Soopers to reopen Thursday after car drove through wall

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The King Soopers on West Uintah Street is scheduled to reopen on Thursday, Nov. 6 after a Rivian SUV crashed through a wall of the building on Tuesday night.

According to a spokesperson for King Soopers, the location at 1750 Uintah St. is scheduled to reopen at 6 a.m. on Thursday following a “comprehensive property evaluation.” The spokesperson said the walk-up pharmacy remains open exclusively for pickup to ensure access to prescriptions.

The crash happened shortly after 4 p.m. on Tuesday, as a Rivian SUV was turning into the King Soopers shopping center from Uintah. The SUV accelerated eastbound and crashed through an exterior wall of the King Soopers. Six people, including the driver of the SUV, were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) believes the crash was just an accident, and said the driver was fully cooperative with police.
