Shelter in place ordered for Fountain area due to gas leak

(FOUNTAIN, Colo.) — The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO) has ordered those living in southeastern Fountain to shelter in place due to a gas leak.

According to EPSO through Peak Alerts, the shelter-in-place is for a 1/2 mile radius from the 800 block of Hayloft Lane near Jimmy Camp and Link Roads. Deputies advise people to stay indoors, close doors and windows, turn off heating and cooling systems, and not to use any open flames or anything that could cause a spark. Avoid the area if possible.

EPSO said the utility company is on the scene, but it could take several hours before gas is shut off and the smell is resolved…
