COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — It’s been just over a month since 9NEWS first reported concerns about high rates of restraints at a youth treatment facility in southern Colorado. Now, for the first time, a teenager who says she experienced those restraints is sharing what it was like inside.
Seventeen-year-old Jayla Hunt entered Southern Peaks Regional Treatment Center in Cañon City in June. Her mother, Katie Gallegos, hoped the facility could help Hunt work through trauma stemming from her father’s murder when she was 11.
