Upcoming Lane Closures and Detours on South Academy Boulevard to Affect Local Traffic Week of November 16

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) will implement temporary closures and lane reductions on South Academy Boulevard in southeastern Colorado Springs. These changes are part of the Military Access, Mobility & Safety Improvement Project (MAMSIP). The closures are scheduled for the week of November 16, 2025. They will affect traffic between Interstate 25 (I-25) and US 85/87.

A full overnight closure of southbound South Academy Boulevard, including the on- and off-ramps to Coventry Drive, is planned for Sunday, November 16, from 7 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. Crews will install new overhead signage during this time. If needed, a backup closure is scheduled for Monday, November 17, during the same hours. Detour routes will be marked. Southbound traffic will be directed to US 85/87, then to B Street, Magrath Avenue, and back to South Academy Boulevard. Drivers on US 85/87 who need to access southbound South Academy will be rerouted via Mesa Ridge Parkway and I-25.

There will also be alternating lane closures in both directions on South Academy Boulevard between Venetucci Boulevard and Milton Proby Parkway. These will take place from Sunday, November 16, through Friday, November 21, between 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. The closures will allow work on signage, drainage, traffic signals, utilities, and other improvements. At least one lane will remain open in each direction. Drivers should expect delays, follow posted speed limits, and watch for flaggers and construction crews…
