CSPD: Suspect threw dirt on stolen tools to sell them as used

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — A man has been arrested after he allegedly stole thousands of dollars’ worth of tools from retail establishments, threw dirt on them, and then pawned them as used items.

According to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD), on Wednesday, Nov. 19, officers with the Metro Retail Pawn and Metal Theft (RPM) Organized Crime Unit identified 62-year-old Mark Wolfe as an alleged prolific offender and discovered a related license plate number for him. Working with detectives, they researched a website online and found Wolfe to be allegedly pawning a large number of items described as “used tools.”

CSPD said further investigation revealed Wolfe had been allegedly stealing from multiple retail stores, removing the brand-new, in-box items from their packaging, and “literally throwing some dirt on the tool so it looked used.” Wolfe would then allegedly pawn the tool…
