Protesters demand justice for police shooting of Alex Martinez-Sarmiento

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Protesters gathered in downtown Colorado Springs on Saturday, Nov. 22, demanding accountability for the police shooting of 26-year-old Alex Martinez-Sarmiento on July 5.

The shooting occurred near several nightclubs when police responded to a report of someone displaying a gun. According to police, Martinez-Sarmiento ran and reached toward his waistband, prompting officers to fire. Despite attempts at life-saving measures, he died at the scene.

“He wasn’t just my brother, he was my reminder that love can be fierce, gentle, and unforgettable at once,” said Saray Rocha, Alex’s older sister. “His absence hurts, but his impact will never fade.”…
