Man sentenced for fatal shooting during custody exchange

ELBERT COUNTY, Colo. — A man who was accused of fatally shooting his fiancé’s ex-boyfriend during a child custody exchange last year has been sentenced to prison, according to court records.

Jeffrey Church, 28, of Colorado Springs, pleaded guilty to one count of reckless manslaughter, according to court records. Other charges were dismissed as part of the plea agreement.

The Elbert County Sheriff’s Office said the shooting happened just before 3 p.m. Feb. 11 at a gas station on County Road 166 in unincorporated Elbert County.
