Man shot after allegedly threatening Alamosa Police officers

(ALAMOSA, Colo.) — A man was shot by Alamosa law enforcement after allegedly charging officers with a knife, according to the Alamosa Police Department (APD).

APD said the suspect, identified as 43-year-old Joseph Tafoya of Colorado Springs, had been in the Alamosa area visiting his girlfriend on Monday, Dec. 8 when a domestic assault occurred. When law enforcement arrived, Tafoya had left the home. Officers then encountered Tafoya in an open field, where he was seen wielding a knife.

APD said officers attempted to de-escalate the situation but Tafoya allegedly refused to surrender the knife. An APD officer deployed their taser, but it was ineffective. Tafoya then allegedly charged the officers with the knife, and another APD officer fired at him, hitting him twice…
