(COLORADO SPRINGS) — A display at the Colorado Springs Airport (COS) is celebrating 70 years of NORAD tracking Santa’s movements across the globe from right here in the Pikes Peak Region.
The display, organized by the Pikes Peak Military Affairs Council (MAC), has been viewable in the main upper lobby right before security since Nov. 17.
“This display celebrates the history and longevity of an ongoing global community relations effort that continues to share holiday magic from our military community with children around the globe since 1955,” said Lisanne McNew, MAC Chair. “We’re excited to highlight this powerful story in the Colorado Springs Airport, gateway to the Pikes Peak region.”
NORAD, based in Colorado Springs, has been tracking Santa since 1955 when a young child accidently dialed the unlisted phone number of the formerly-named, “Continental Air Defense Command” Operations Center, believing she was calling Santa Claus after seeing a promotion in a local newspaper…
