(EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — An 11-year-old girl was honored with an award from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPSO) on Friday, Dec. 12 for remaining calm and knowing her family’s personal information to help first responders reach them quickly.
According to EPSO, on July 1, 11-year-old Berkley Cottam called 911 for her mother, Brooke, who was experiencing a medical emergency. EPSO said El Paso County Regional Communications Center Dispatcher Angelica Pedro-Ramirez answered Berkley’s call and worked with her to help Brooke while the Falcon Fire Department responded.
“My mom said that she wasn’t feeling very well, so then she started to lay down, and then she started having a seizure,” said Berkley. “My mom has like a folder and it has a bunch of stuff in it, like where we live, our phone number.”
