(EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — A deputy-involved shooting that occurred in July in the Security-Widefield area has been referred to a grand jury for determination of whether criminal charges are warranted.
According to the 4th Judicial District Attorney’s (DA) Office, the shooting that occurred on July 18 in the 6500 block of Tranters Creek Way in Lorson Ranch will now be reviewed by a grand jury following a review by a Deadly Force Investigation Team (DFIT).

The shooting happened shortly before midnight on July 18 after a neighbor had called 911 reporting a disturbance next door with a gun believed to be involved.
When deputies with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office arrived, they found a gun in the driveway of the home and made contact with a woman and a man, later identified as 59-year-old Brian Prine. When deputies tried to detain Prine, he allegedly became physically aggressive toward deputies and grabbed a taser from one of the deputies.
According to EPSO, Prine fired the taser as a fight began between him and the deputies. EPSO reported that at least two deputies fired at least one round each, hitting Prine. Despite medical intervention, Prine was declared dead on scene…
