Over 200 families facing hardship receive holiday gifts

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Over 200 students from Harrison School District 2 (D2) and their families received gifts from volunteers who participated in Pikes Peak United Way’s Adopt-a-Family program on Tuesday, Dec. 16.

The families arrived at United Way’s Family Success Center, where they were able to pick up their gifts and write a thank-you note to their anonymous benefactor.

According to Pikes Peak United Way, this year’s registered families included 112 single-parent, 30 multigenerational, and 30 with a member with a disability. Many were facing hardship, with 17 mourning recent losses, 7 in major crises, 13 experiencing housing insecurity, and several in overcrowded or shared housing, with 23 in houses with seven or more people under one roof…
