Mayor Yemi presents top COS achievements from 2025

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The Mayor of Colorado Springs, Yemi Mobolade, held a press conference on Thursday, Dec. 18, to celebrate the progress the city government has made in 2025. To do so, Mayor Yemi gave the community a countdown of the top 10 accomplishments in Colorado Springs in 2025.

“As we close out, 2025, I want to speak directly to the people of this great city, beginning with the simple truth that Colorado Springs is flourishing and that we are flourishing together. This year has not been easy. We have navigated economic uncertainty, but the pressures complex challenges that. Believe it or not, they do not come with simple answers. And yet, because of strong partnerships, disciplined leadership, and a shared commitment to the well-being of this city, I’m proud to say that we have made remarkable progress in 2025. You see, in 2025, we didn’t just talk about strategic priorities. We delivered on them. So today I want to highlight ten accomplishments, ten milestones that reflect real outcomes for the real people of Colorado Springs.”

10: Major strides to support mental health

According to the mayor, El Paso County suicides dropped by 18%, dropping 60% in young people.

9: Homeless support

The City of Colorado Springs raised $860,000 to expand winter shelter housing capacity, and also launched a program with Mountain Metro Transit to provide free transportation to warming spaces during extreme cold events.

8: Expansion of affordable housing

The mayor touted that 1700 attainable, affordable homes for families, seniors, and young buyers are either open for purchase or currently being constructed.

7: Strengthening of the local economy

Mayor Yemi also spoke on bringing more jobs into Colorado Springs, including Coca-Cola’s recent $470 million investment to build a new manufacturing facility at Peak Innovation Park, bringing 170 “good-paying jobs and support more than a thousand construction jobs, solidifying Colorado Springs as a leader in advanced manufacturing.”

6: International flights

June 7 marked the first international flight in the city’s history with direct international flights to Cancun, Mexico. “This milestone expands travel options for families, supports local jobs, strengthening our economy, and opens the doors for new visitors and business opportunity,” Mayor Yemi said in his address.

5: Investment in City infrastructure

Over the course of 2025, city workers repaved 107 miles of lanes and repaired over 74,000 potholes to create smoother, safer routes for all who use Colorado Springs’ roadways. New additions to the City’s social infrastructure include the construction of the Carter Springs Senior Center.

4: Accelerating safety efforts with technology

According to the mayor, the Real-Time Crime Center and the new Drone as a First Responder Program, and new speed safety cameras for red light enforcement are designed to protect COS neighborhoods, school zones, and critical corridors where safety matters most.

3: Decreases in crime

In 2025, traffic enforcement increased by 28%, school zone enforcement rose by a staggering 213%, while other crime statistics fell. Namely, robberies reduced by 8%, burglaries by 19%, vehicle theft by 42%, and murders reduced by 38%.

2: Opening Fire Station 24

The construction of state-of-the-art Fire Station 24 has improved response times in its district by almost three minutes, Mayor Yemi said during his speech.

1: Historic year for public safety

In his statement to the public, the mayor confirmed that for the first time in city history, the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) had passed 800 sworn officers. On top of this, one COS call center reached its highest staffing levels since 2018. Adding to these accomplishments, Mayor Yemi noted that in 2025, response times dropped from 55 to 11 minutes.
