(EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — El Paso County District Court Judge Eric Bentley has accepted plea deals for Jon and Carie Hallford on state charges.
Judge Bentley explained his reasoning in accepting the pleas where he had previously denied–the maximum sentence length in this plea deal for Jon Hallford had increased by 150%, and the maximum sentence for Carie Hallford had increased by 75%. Judge Bentley described this change in the sentences as “meaningful change” over the previously denied plea deals.
Judge Bentley added that, if this case had gone to trial as many victims advocated for, many of the answers victims were seeking may not have even been revealed, and the experience of the trial may have done more damage to victim families than it solved…
