Jon Hallford to be sentenced on state charges Friday

(EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — On Friday, Feb. 6, Jon Hallford will be in court for sentencing on state charges related to the improper storage of bodies at his and his wife Carie Hallford’s Penrose location of the now-defunct Return to Nature Funeral Home.

The pair was arrested on Nov. 8, 2023, in Wagoner, Oklahoma, on suspicion of corpse abuse, theft, money laundering, and forgery, after 189 decaying bodies were found improperly stored at the Penrose location. Two additional bodies were found to have been improperly buried, the DA’s Office said.

On Dec. 22, 2025, a judge accepted the pair’s plea on state charges after previously rejecting the pleas, stating the 15- to 20-year sentence was too lenient.
