(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Bystanders helped an officer catch an alleged shoplifter outside a retail location when the suspect resisted arrest on Sunday, Feb. 8, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD).
According to CSPD, officers responded to the scene in the 600 block of North Murray Boulevard, near East Platte Avenue, at around 2:15 p.m. on Sunday to assist an officer who was performing extra-duty security work. The officer had attempted to detain a suspect for shoplifting, but the suspect tried to run. As the officer chased the suspect, he ran into and back out of the store, where the officer grabbed him just outside the entrance.
CSPD reported that the suspect resisted arrest, assaulting the officer and causing minor injury. Two bystanders helped the officer, who then took the suspect into custody. The officer only minor scrapes and abrasions and was able to return to service. The bystanders who had helped the officer didn’t stick around long enough to be identified…
