New long-term revitalization plan for downtown Colorado Springs

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — Chelsea Gondeck, the new CEO of the Downtown Partnership of Colorado Springs, has launched “Elevate Downtown”, a 10- to 15-year master plan to revitalize the city’s core. The initiative focuses on expanding housing options and providing support for local small businesses.

The long-term vision is paired with a shorter-term, 19-month “Clean and Safe” program intended to create a more welcoming environment in the downtown area. These efforts arrive as Colorado Springs faces a citywide housing shortage of approximately 27,000 units.

Gondeck, who was named CEO of the Downtown Partnership in December, is overseeing the implementation of the new vision. She described the downtown area as a shared resource for the entire region rather than just those who live there. “I would ask absolutely everybody to lean in right, downtown is not just for the people of downtown,” Gondeck said. “The downtown belongs to this entire community.”…
