Douglas County deputy fired, accused of driving drunk and spitting on police officer

PARKER, Colo. — The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office has fired a deputy accused of driving drunk and spitting on a police officer.

According to a statement from Sheriff Darren Weekly, 40-year-old Andrew Sanders was terminated from his employment with the sheriff’s office on Friday. He faces charges including driving under the influence, careless driving, assault on a peace officer and obstruction after he was arrested near the intersection of Jordan Road and Bradbury Parkway on the night of Feb. 7.

The arrest affidavit from Parker Police says Sanders was pulled over after an officer observed him swerving between lanes of traffic. The affidavit says the officer noticed Sanders was speaking with a “thick tongue” before a second officer arrived and took over the investigation…
