Colorado Springs proposes park service cuts due to budget shortfall

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — The City of Colorado Springs said that due to reduced budget allocations for 2026, several services will be cut for parks around the city, and expected to save around $950,000.

The City said it will not run the Julie Penrose Fountain in America the Beautiful Park, which will save about $50,000.

Impacting Downtown medians, neighborhood and community parks, sports complexes, and Cimarron/I-25 landscape areas, the City said contracted maintenance will be discontinued in neighborhood and community parks, along with reduced mowing frequency and decreased fertilizer and broadleaf weed control applications, saving around $525,000…
