Departing and incoming Cheyenne Mountain Zoo CEOs talk giraffe center renovations and visions for the future

(COLORADO SPRINGS)– As Cheyenne Mountain Zoo plans to bid farewell to long-time CEO Bob Chastain and welcome incoming CEO Dave Ruhl in just a few months, both talked with FOX21 about legacy, visions of what’s next, and the upcoming completion of the Giraffe Center renovation. “The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo obviously is a special place. Spencer Penrose picked this beautiful spot on the mountain,” Chastain said. “And we inherited that. We’ve really done our best for the last 30 years to try to honor that legacy and honor the beauty of the mountainside around us. I’m just grateful for everything that the people of Colorado Springs have done for us.”The Giraffe Center is set to open to guests in May. It’s a project that has been several years in the making. A notable feature of the new exhibit will be the roof, which will reflect a giraffe’s natural environment and provide an extra layer of protection. “That is a Class 8 roof, and there’s something special about it,” Chastain detailed……
